Environmental forum for candidates coming up

Staff report

The Great Basin Group of the Sierra Club is joining forces with Nevada Eco-Net and Scenic Nevada to put on an expanded version of the bi-annual candidates night on Oct. 9.

This year the forum will be in the California Building, 1000 Whitmore Lane, in Reno’s Idlewild Park.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the first session will begin at 6:30 p.m. with candidates for Washoe County Commission, Reno City Council and Sparks City Council. A second session, starting at 7:45 p.m., will involve Washoe County candidates for the Nevada State Assembly.

The forum will focus on the candidate’s views regarding a number of environmentally related ballot initiatives, and issues such as energy policy, power plants, energy efficiency and alternative energy incentives, land use policy, off-road vehicles, wild horses and water.

Light refreshments will be served and there will be a number of tables set up around the room to highlight individual candidates, ballot initiatives and environmental organizations.

People are encouraged to arrive early to allow themselves time to meet and speak directly with the candidates prior to the formal part of the forum.
The public is welcome and admission is free. Details: www.nevadaeconet.org
